CHAIRPERSONS AND VICE-CHAIRPERSONS OF SECURITY COUNCIL SANCTIONS COMMITTEES ELECTED FOR 2001

NEW YORK, 4 January (Department of Political Affairs) -- Pursuant to paragraph 4 (b) of the note by the President of the Security Council dated 30 October 1998 (S/1998/1016), and after consultations among the members of the Council, it was agreed to elect the chairpersons and vice-chairpersons of the following sanctions committees for a period running until 31 December 2001:

Security Council Committee established by resolution 661 (1990) concerning the situation between Iraq and Kuwait:

Chairman:   Ole Peter Kolby (Norway) Vice-Chairmen: Mauritius and Ukraine

Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 748 (1992) concerning Libya:

Chairman:   Valeri P. Kuchynski (Ukraine) Vice-Chairmen: Bangladesh and Jamaica

Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 751 (1992) concerning Somalia:

Chairman:   Saïd Ben Mustapha (Tunisia) Vice-Chairmen: Jamaica and Norway

Security Council Committee established pursuant to resolution 864 (1993) concerning the situation in Angola:
