Press Statement on Inspection Activities in Iraq

UNMOVIC/IAEA

01 January 2003

An UNMOVIC team of missile inspectors inspected the Al Harith Factory at the Taji Camp, located roughly 40 km north of Baghdad. A few days ago, Iraqi representatives requested that UNMOVIC remove tags from SA-2 missiles to facilitate required maintenance tasks. The missile experts took this opportunity to re-inspect the facility, which was previously inspected on 19 December 2002.

An UNMOVIC chemical team inspected the Al Majd Al Amiriyah Stores, approximately 30 km west of Baghdad. This site is a store that contains some electronics and corrosion-resistant materials.

An UNMOVIC biological team inspected the Baghdad Alcoholic Drinks Company near Baghdad. The company is a brewery that produces beer for the local markets. Another biological team inspected the 7-UP Plant, National Food Industries, in Baghdad. The plant bottles a carbonated lemon-lime drink.
