Letter from the Minister for Foreign Affairs addressed to the Secretary-General of the United Nations

IRAQI MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Naji Sabri stressed that the US is seriously stepping up the situation on the bordering region between Iraq and Kuwait which is to cause a direct international peace and security.

In a letter sent to UN Secretary-General Kofi Anan, he pointed out that what is Washington committing is regarded as humiliation to the international law, UN Charter and SC resolutions which call on countries to respect Iraq sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and the no-arm zone between Iraq and Kuwait.

The Minister drew the attention that US escalated its serious aggressive and provocative acts against Iraq and UN peace keeping force in the southern region.

The Minister mentioned that about (60) heavy tanks with a number of various military vehicles carried out a military exercise near the no-arm zone which is supervised by the (UNIKOM).

He added that these aggressive and terrorist acts are added to the daily sorties with Britain participation against Iraq cities and villages in addition to financing and arming mercenaries and traitors to commit terrorist acts inside Iraq.

The Minister called on UN Secretary-General to sent a fact finding mission to document the said US violations and to take the appropriate measures to respect SC resolutions.

In his letter, the Minister also called on UN and SC member states to halt the violation of the international law and to condemn US aggressive intentions against Iraq.
