Statement of the Ministry of Foreign IRAQI MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS March 13, 2003
1-UNMOVIC common Inspection Team Two helicopters, on board of which an inspection headed by Brazilian inspector ( Jose Salinas) took off from Al-Rashid Airport at8.45 a.m.,the team conducted a reconnaissance operation on a desert area near the historic palace of Al-Akhatdher, south of kabala city . The reconnaissance have been made from the helicopter and did not land at the area. The reconnaissance operation lasted for ten minutes after which they returned to Al-Rashid Airport. 2-UNMOVIC common Inspection team/Musil Headed by Peter Hike, an English inspector , the group set out from Nineveh Palace Hotel at 9.00 a.m., the group arrived at Block Factory and poultry husbandry /private , located along with the way to Musil-Rabeyah.The team visited the factory and poultry field and photographed the heaps of rocks and the silo of the factory . The inspection lasted for half an hour. They returned to the hotel of Nineveh palace. 3-UNMOVIC Inspection team (Biology) A-Group 1: Led by Ayon, Aukranian inspector, the group set out from the canal hotel at 8.3o a.m to Al-Sharqiyah company of frozen stuff food/private sector.The group held a meeting with the manager of the company , and inquired about the company activities, its possession , the quantity of production, the types of tests made in the laboratories .They visited plastic ,Dairy ,Juice departments. They toured all the sites and buildings. The inspection lasted two hours and forty minutes. They returned to the hotel. B-Group 2: Headed by Michael Philip, French inspector, the group set out from the canal hotel at8.45 a.m.,and arrived at shell destruction site at Al-Azezeyah . The group observed the underway excavation process at the site and familiarized itself on the reports, equipment that were taken out during excavation process. The inspection lasted about two hours and quarter, after which they returned to the hotel. 4-UNMOVIC Inspection team (Missiles) Headed by Jacque , French inspector, the group set out from the canal hotel at 8.30 and arrived the site of Technical College / AL-Taji. The group observed the destruction process of (3) missiles Al-sumood –2, along with 7 warheads .The inspection lasted four hours and ten minutes after which they returned to the hotel. B-Group 2: Headed by Costano , Argentinean inspector,the group set out from the canal hotel at8.30 a.m. and arrived Al-Karama state company .They supervised the transportation of the remaining parts of AL-sumood missiles-2, and conducted a survey on the computer programs that have connection with Al-sumood –2.The inspection lasted four hours after which they returned to the hotel. C- Group 3: Headed by Auktavian, Romanian inspector, the team set out from the canal hotel at 8.30 a.m. and arrived Al-Mutasim Factory, a subsidiary of Al-Rashid general company / MIC. The purpose of the visit was to put tags on some of the missiles , type Al-Fatih . The team , then, toured the factory . The inspection lasted two hours after which they returned to the hotel. 5- UNMOVIC Inspection team (chemical): Headed by Steph, an English inspector, the group set out from the canal hotel at 8.30 a.m. , and arrived Al-Nu,maneyah company for canning of the foodstuff and the fingered / private sector .The team held a meeting with one of the company officials and asked questions about the gaps up to the recent years , the number of the factories belonging to them , the number of labors . The team, then, toured all the departments of the company. The inspection lasted for two and half an hour. ON their way back to the hotel a road accident occurred to one of the vehicles and as a result of one inspector has died, in spite of sincere and exceptional attempts exerted by Iraqi side to save his life. He has been transferred to Al-Rashid Military Hospital. As a result of the accident one inspector was wounded. He is being hospitalized at the same hospital and his condition is good. 6-Reconnaissance Airplane/Mirage: Reconnaissance Airplane ,type /Mirage /4 entred Iraqi airspace at 10.25 a.m. and at 12.00p.m.left Iraqi airspace during which it made a reconnaissance process of various areas of Iraq , the reconnaissance process lasted for one hour and thirty five minutes . Inetviews UNMOVIC Commission asked to make an individual interview with one Iraqi specialist at one of the Iraqi hotels. The N.M.D. encouraged him to do that and informed him to attend at the time and place appointed. The UNMOVIC rejected to conduct the interview and asked to be postponed at other time without giving clarification of the reasons behind that.
