Statement by
Spokesman of Ministry of IRAQI MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS February 12, 2003
1.
The IAEA Inspection Team: It
set out from Al-Qanat Hotel at 9:15a.m, headed by the Canadian inspector
(George Helly). The team arrived at Saddam's Center for Cancer Researches.
The inspectors inquired about the Center's activities and whether radioactive
sources are used to cure cancer. Then, the team headed toward Saddam’s
Center for Scientific Nerves. The purpose of the visit was to verify the
arrival of a device that is used for the cure of brain cancer, which has
radioactive elements. The team inquired about the device source, then
it toured the (gamma radioactive) surgery room as the inspectors acquainted
themselves with the device and its uses. The visit went on for one hour
and 15 minutes, then the group went back to the Hotel. 2.
UNMOVIC Inspection Team (Missiles): A-Group
I: Set out from Al-Qanat Hotel at 8:30a.m, headed by the French inspector
(Jack). The group arrived at the technical battalion in Al-Taji area.
The inspectors supervised the destruction of (3) of Al-Soumoud-2 missiles.
The visit went on for (4) hours, then the group went back to the Hotel. B-Group
II: Set out from Al-Qanat Hotel at 8:30a.m, headed by the Argentinean
inspector (Kostavo). The group arrived at Al-Karama State Company\MIC.
The inspectors made an inventory of the special parts of the said missile
as the inspectors moved these parts to the technical battalion in Al-Taji
area. Then they destroyed the plots and deleted all the missiles programs
that were loaded on computers. The visit went on for (4) hours and (30)
minutes. Then, the group went back to the Hotel. C-Group
III: Set out from Al-Qanat Hotel at 8:30a.m, headed by the Australian
inspector (William Jolly). He requested to go to Al-Mutasem Factory of
Al-Rasheed State Company, then in the middle of the way to the site he
asked to go back to the Hotel. 3.
UNMOVIC Inspection Team (Chemical): The
team set out from Al-Qanat Hotel at 8.45 a.m., headed by Austrian inspector
(Peter). The group arrived at That Al-Sawary State Company for Chemical
Industries/Ministry of Industry and Minerals .The group held a meeting
with the Company’s officials ,asking about the production type, the number
of factories, its relationship with other companies and whether there
is any kind of cooperation with the MIC. The group toured all facilities.
The visit went on for (3) hours then, it went to the Hotel. 4.
UNMOVIC Inspection Team(Biological): A-Group 1: Set out from Al-Qanat Hotel at 9.15a.m. , headed by the French inspector (Philip Michel), the group arrived at the Dairy and Soft Drink Production Company. Private sector .The group held a meeting with the Director, asking about the Company’s activities, production, total number of staff and the labs. The group toured all the facilities. The visit went on for one hour and 30 minutes, then, it went back to the Hotel. B- Group 2: Set out from Al-Qanat Hotel at 9:15 a.m. ,headed by the American inspector (Rick) and arrived at Baghdad Company for Juice Production. The group held a meeting with the officials, asking about the time of halting production and its restarting, whether there is a qualitative control lab, type of tests and the number of the staff. The group inspected the Company’s departments and stores. The inspection lasted for one hour ,then the group returned to the Hotel. 5.
UNMOVIC Joint Inspection Team / Baghdad: The team set out from Al-Qanat Hotel at 9:00 a.m. ,headed by the Brazilian inspector (Jose), arrived at one of missile battalions. The team held a meeting with one of the officers, asking about technical equipment and the real name of the battalion. The team inspected the battalion for one hour and returned to the hotel. 6.
Interviews: The UNMOVIC requested to conduct an individual interview with one of Iraqi specialists at one of Baghdad’s hotels. The NMD encouraged him to conduct the interview, informing him about the set date and place. The interview was carried out.
