Statement
by Spokesman of Ministry of Foreign IRAQI MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS March 8, 2003
1. IAEA Inspection Team: Group I: Left Al-Qanat Hotel at 8:30 a.m., led by the American inspector (Robert Kelly). The group reached Salah Al-Dean’s State Company of the MIC, held a meeting with the Company’s officials and inquired about the work of the Company, it’s current production, number of it’s workers and it’s future plans. The group, then, made a tour all around the productive divisions and the departments of the administration. The inspection took about 3 hours. The group returned to the Hotel. Group II: Left Al-Qanat Hotel at 8:40 a.m. led by the Canadian inspector Victor. . The group made a radiological survey in the first Taji camp and other military units therein using hand survey apparatus and survey devices carried by a vehicle. The survey took about 4 hours, then the group returned to the Hotel. Group III: Led by the Canadian inspector George Haily, left Al-Qanat Hotel at 9:00 a.m. and reached Tabook Company, held a meeting with the Company’s officials and inquired about the work of the Company, it’s important factories and the production capacity of each factory. Then the group headed to Al- Mu'tasim Factory of Al-Rasheed Company. It got acquainted with the destroyed buildings of the Factory. After that the group headed for Al-Quds State Company of MIC. It got acquainted with the activities of the centers that belonging to the Company and the laboratories of each center. The inspection took about 6 hours and 30 minutes, then, the group returned to the Hotel. 2. UNMOVIC Inspection Team (Missiles): A. Group I:Left Al-Qanat Hotel at 8:30 a.m.led by the French inspector Jacque reached Al- Soumoud Factory of Al- Karama State Company.The aim of this visit was to supervise the destruction process of the equipment and other parts relating to Al-Soumoud missile /2. Then the group headed for the Technical Regiment in Al-Taji to supervise the destruction of the parts relating to Al-Soumoud missile/2. The visit took about 6 hours. Then ,the group returned to the Hotel. B. Group II:Left Al-Qanat Hotel at 8:30 a.m. led by the Australian inspector William Jolly, reached the Technical Regiment in Al- Taji to supervise the destruction of 6 Al- Soumoud missiles/2. The visit took about 5 hours. The group returned to the Hotel. C. Group III: Set out of its residential Hotel at 8:40 a.m., led by the Turkish inspector Nozad, reached Al-Qa'qa State Company. The aim of the visit was to check if there are any warheads of Al-Soumoud missile/2 without tags. The visit took 30 minutes, then, the group returned to the Hotel. 3. UNMOVIC Inspection Team (Chemical): The team left Al-Qanat Hotel at 9:00 a.m. led by the British inspector Steaf, reached Al-Qa'qa Company, held a meeting with the Company’s officials and inquired about the work of the units at the present time, the factories that stopped working and the tagged equipment in side the Company. Then ,the team visited the concentrating unit of the sulphour acid. The visit took about 2 hours and 20 minutes, then, the team returned to the Hotel. 4. UNMOVIC Inspection Team (Biological): This team left Al-Qanat Hotel at 9:00 a.m. led by inspector Eric. It reached the site of bombs destruction at Al-Aziziya and made a tour in this site. The team inquired about the number of the bombs taken today. Also took samples out of the site. The inspection took about 2 hours and 30 minutes. Then, the team returned to the Hotel. 5. UNMOVIC Joint Inspection Team (Baghdad): The team, led by the Chilean inspector Salinas, it reached the Factory of Drying and Separating the Yellow Corn in Al- Haidery area that is belonging to Mabayn Al- Nahrain Company of Seeds of the Ministry of Agriculture. It held a meeting with the Company’s Director and inquired about the date of establishing the Factory, number of the workers and when the site became a subsidiary to the Ministry of Agriculture. Then, the team made a tour in all the Factory’s stores. The inspection took about one hour, the team returned to the Hotel. 6. UNMOVIC Joint Inspection Team (Mosul): This team left Nineveh Palace Hotel at 9:00 a.m. led by the Russian inspector Roman Evmnof. TIt reached the old two Television & Radio Stations. It inspected the two sites and took photos for the rubble of the buildings, which were destroyed since 1991. The visit took 2 hours, then, it returned to the Hotel. 7. Interviews: The UNMOVIC asked to make an individual interview with one of Iraqi specialists in one of Baghdad’s hotels. The NMD informed the involved specialist with the set date and time, as it encouraged him to proceed with the interview. The UNMOVIC accomplished the interview.
