Statement
by Spokesman of Ministry of Foreign IRAQI MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS March 6, 2003
1. IAEA Inspection Team: Group I: Left Al-Qanat hotel at 8:50 a.m., and was led by the American inspector (Robert Kelly). The group arrived at Sa’ad State Company of the MIC, held a meeting with the company’s director and inquired from him about the activities of the company and the number of its centers, what are the projects entrusted to the company, whether there are works for the Ministry of Industry and whether there are projects with Al-Qaqa Company. The group, then made a tour all around the around the divisions of the company and reviewed the files and the computers. The inspection took about (4) hours and (20) min. Then the group returned back to the hotel. Group II: Left Al-Qanat hotel at 8:50 a.m., and was led by the French inspector (Renoud). Arrived at the privet sector company, belong to Abdul Majeed Al-Hadithy, an Iraqi citizen. Reviewed all the files of the company, then, the group copied the data of the hard disk of the computer. Then the group toured through the company’s division. The inspection took about (5) hours and (20) min., then, they returned to the hotel. Group III: Was led by the Canadian inspector (Victor), left Al-Qanat hotel at 8:40 a.m. and arrived at Hammad Shihab Military Hospital, the military medical warehouses headquarters of D.M., and Al-Husainia residential area. The group made a radiation survey in all of these places, the main streets and the bye ones. The inspection took about (3) hours, then, the group returned back to the hotel. 2. UNMOVIC Inspection Team (biology): This team left Al-Qanat hotel at 8:30 a.m., and was led by the Dutch inspector (Yan Rosnick). They arrived at the site of bombs destruction at Al-Azizia, where they took samples from the soil and the shells, overlooked the work taking place there. Then, they headed to the Factory of the separating and drying corn, which belongs to the Ministry of Agriculture. They asked when this Factory was established and what kind of trucks entering the factory, the connection with the headquarters of the Company at Abo-Ghrape, then they opened (4) containers containing equipments of the factory of purifying the seeds, which is still under construction at Al-Azizia. Afterward they went to the construction site to overlook the ongoing works and asked when the factory construction works will be accomplished. The inspection took about (4) hours and (20) min. Then, the team returned to the hotel. 3. UNMOVIC Inspection Team (missiles): Group I: Left Al-Qanat hotel at 8:30 a.m., led by the Turkish inspector (Temal), and arrived at the Technical College –M.D., where they witnessed the destruction of (6) Al-Sumood missiles. The visit took about (3) hours and (20) min. Then the group returned back to the hotel. Group II: Left Al-Qanat hotel at 8:50 a.m., led by the French inspector (Kay), and arrived at Al-Moutasim Factory of the MIC’s Al-Rushed State Company. The aim of the visit was to watch the final stages of destroying the molding tanks. The group then headed to Al-Qaqa State Company for putting the tags on the warheads of Al-Somood missiles. The visit took about (3) hours. The group returned to the hotel. Group III: set out of its residential hotel at 8:30 a.m., led by the French inspector (Jack), and arrived at Al-Somood Factory of Al-Karama Company. The group inspected all the Factory’s facilities to make sure there are no parts that had connection with Al-Somood missiles. The visit took (2) hours, then, the group returned to the hotel. 4. UNMOVIC Inspection Team (chemical): The team took off on aboard of a helicopter at 7:30 a.m. from Al-Rushed airport, led by the Polish inspector (Sterililo), and arrived at Ukashat mine of the State Company for phosphate. The team held a meeting with the site director and asked him how many personnel working there, how many people holding college degree, what are the changes since 1998, what are the beneficiaries from the mine production and the activities of the labs. The visit took about (3) hours, then, the team returned back to Al-Rushed airport. 5. UNMOVIC Joint Inspection Team (Baghdad): A 3-inspector team, led by the Brazilian inspector (Ghozie Salinase), took off on a board of a helicopter from Al-Rushed airport, at 7:30 a.m. The team surveyed an open area near Badosh dam, and photographic and video cameras were used. Further, the team surveyed the site of Singar cement Factory and the surrounding areas. Pictures by thermal and video cameras were taken. The whole operation of surveying the region took (30) min., they the team returned to Al-Rushed airport. 6. The Mirage Reconnaissance airplane: This airplane entered the Iraqi airspace at 10:30 a.m., and left at 11:25 a.m. and re-entered again at 11:37 a.m. and left at 1:05 p.m. The whole operation of the reconnaissance took about (2) hours. 7. UNMOVIC Joint Inspection team (Mosil): This team left Nineveh Palace hotel at 9:00 a.m. and was led by the Swedish inspector (Oula Klayson). They arrived at Ghaz Al-Shimal (north gas) Company of the Ministry of Oil, located in Al-Tamim province. The team inquired about the Company and its sub establishments, the products and the finance resources. They visited the section of the stores and used the chemical agents detection apparatus. The visit took (3) hours and (20) min., the team, then, returned back to the hotel.
