Statement
by Spokesman of Ministry of Foreign IRAQI MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS March 5, 2003
1- IAEA Inspection Team: Group I: It set out from Al-Qanat Hotel at 9:00a.m, headed by the Canadian inspector (Victor). It conducted a radiological survey at Alzafaranya area including the compound state and mixed sector companies in the area. The survey lasted for three hours, then the group went back to the Hotel. Group II: It set out from Al-Qanat Hotel at 9:00a.m, headed by the Canadian inspector (Goreage Helly) the group arrived at Armos Company for Limited Commerce. The group held a meeting with the Manager and asked about the name of the Company, the activities and its relation with the MIC, and its imports from abroad. The group, then, inspected all the commercial dealings and contracts and photographed them. The inspection lasted for (5) hours, then, the group went back to the Hotel. Group III: It set out from Al-Qanat Hotel at 12:30p.m, headed by the American inspector Robert Killy at the computer of the Mortgage Bank\MF. The group held a meeting with the manager of the computer, inquired about the previously and currently used computers, the nature of the activities, the number of employees. The inspection went on for two hours and forty minutes. The group returned to the Hotel. 2. UNMOVIC Inspection Team (Biological): A. Group I: It set out from Al-Qanat Hotel at 9:00a.m, headed by the Austrian inspector (Ban Roznik). It arrived at Al-Basha'er Company for Limited Commercial Agencies. The group held a meeting with the Manager and inquired about the commercial dealings that being carried out . The visit lasted for (3) hours, then the group went back to the Hotel. B. Group II: It set out from Al-Qanat Hotel at 8:40a.m, headed by inspector (Roger). The group arrived at Alazizyah fire field. They toured around the site and photographed some parts of the destroying shells. The visit lasted for two hours. Then the group went back to the Hotel. C. Group III: A helicopter took off from Al-Rasheed Airport at 10:30a.m with (4) inspectors headed by the English inspector (Martin). The group arrived at Al-Moutasem Airbase\MD. The group held a meeting with the officials of the Airbase and inquired about the number of drone planes , their types , when they were chosen and what is the most important modification carried on them and the facility to which these plane belong. Then ,the group toured the Airbase including the special hangar of the drone planes. The inspection lasted for (4) hours and forty minutes, then the group went back to Al-Rasheed Airbase. 3. UNMOVIC Inspection Team in Mosul (Joint): It set out from Nineveh Palace Hotel at 9:00a.m, head by the Russian inspector (Romen). The team arrived at Al-Mosul Gastric Electricity Station Directorate \ Electricity Commission. The team held a meeting with the Director , inquired about the total number of the employees , the establishment date, its main activities and the production capacity. Then the team toured all the facilities. The visit went on for one hour and 30 minutes, then the team returned to the Hotel. 4. UNMOVIC Inspection Team (Chemicals): Group I: It set out from Al-Qanat Hotel at 8:45a.m, headed by the English inspector (Steve Alainson). The group arrived at Al-Qaqa State Company. The inspectors visited Al-Khaled Factory as they checked the sealed equipment. The visit lasted for one hour, then the group went back to the Hotel. Group II: It set out from Al-Qanat Hotel at 9:00a.m, headed by the Austrian inspector (Peter). The group arrived at Al-Muthanna site which is abandoned\MIC. The group got themselves acquainted with the chemical materials destruction process and took samples of them. The inspection went on for (4) hours and (40) minutes, then the group went back to the Hotel. 5. The Reconnaissance Aircraft (Mirage): At 10:20a.m, a reconnaissance aircraft (Mirage 4) entered the Iraqi airspace. It left the airspace at 11:30a.m……at 12:15p.m, it returned back reconnoitering several areas of the country. At 12:40p.m, it left the Iraqi air space. The reconnaissance went on for one hour and forty minutes. 6. Interviews: The UNMOVIC demanded to interview an Iraqi specialist in one of Baghdad's hotels. The NMD informed him with the set time and date as it encouraged him to go for the individual interview. The interview was accomplished.
