A statement by Spokesman of Ministry of Foreign Affairs
on (UNMOVIC),(IAEA) activities

IRAQI MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS

February 28, 2003

 

1-IAEA Inspection Team:

The team left Al-Qanat Hotel at 9:40 a.m. and it led by Mr. Bries (Canadian),. They performed a radiological survey by apparatuses mounted on a vehicle. The operation included various factories and departments belonging to the ministries of oil and industry and minerals, located at AL-Habibya region. Survey operation took about an hour and forty minutes. Afterwards, the team returned to the Hotel.

2-UNMOVIC Inspection Team (Missiles):

The team left Al-Qanat Hotel at 9:10 a.m., and was led by the Mr. Li geong (Korean).It arrived at the MIC’s AL-Harith State Company, putting tags on a number of Volga missiles. The inspection took about one hour and forty minutes. Afterwards, the team returned to the Hotel.

3-UNMOVIC Inspection Team (Biological):

A-Group I: Left Al- Qanat Hotel at 8:30 a.m., led by Mr. yan rosenick (Dutch), arrived at the shells destruction site, located at AL-Azizya, where it counted the number of shells and weighed out the collected fragment pieces and labeled some of the shells. The inspection took about three hours and forty minutes. The group, afterwards, returned to the Hotel.

B-Group II: They left Al-Qanat Hotel at 10 a.m. led by Mr. Erick (American) , arrived at the Center of Purifying Seeds, which belongs to the Organization of Atomic Energy, where it took a tour around the warehouses and the nearby rubble and measured the dimensions of the warehouses. After that, it headed for the site of Mabain AL-Nahrain State Company .The group inspected the store of purifying wheat. Finally, it headed for a farm behind the warehouses and took photographs. The inspection took about two hours and forty minutes. Afterwards, it returned to the Hotel.

The U-2 Reconnaissance Plane:

It entered the Iraqi air spaces at 10:35 a.m. and reconnoitered various parts of the country. It left the Iraqi air- spaces at 4:50 p.m. The whole operation took about six hours and fifteen minutes.
