A statement by Spokesman for Ministry of Foreign Affairs on (UNMOVIC),(IAEA) activities IRAQI MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS February 25, 2003
1. IAEA Inspection Team: A. Group I: consisting of (4) inspectors and led by the Canadian inspector, George Hailey, the group set out from Al-Qanat Hotel at 9:50a.m, and arrived at Al-Tahaddi State Company, one of the MIC’s companies. The group held a meeting with the Company’s Director asking about the activities and the important projects that are carried out by the Company. After that, the group made a tour through all the laboratories and got acquainted with the activity of every lab. The visit lasted for three hours and which the group went back to the Hotel. B. Group II: Consisting of (2) inspectors and led by the Canadian inspector Victor, the group set out from Al-Qanat Hotel at 8:40a.m. The group made a radiological survey using special survey devices carried by a vehicle. The survey included Al-Zafarania area in Baghdad. The survey process lasted for one hour and a half, and then the group returned to the Hotel. 2. UNMOVIC Inspection Team (Missile): A. Group I: The group set out from Al-Qanat Hotel at 8:00a.m, consisted of (6) inspectors headed by the French Gay. It arrived at Al-Qaqa State Company, which belongs to MIC. It held a meeting with the officials to check the special declarations of the Company and make conformities with the actual available assets. Afterwards, the group made a tour included some stores. The visit lasted for three hours, and then the group returned to the Hotel. B. Group II: The group set out from Al-Qanat Hotel at 8:00a.m, consisted of (3) inspectors and headed by the American (Mr. Kenneth Groof). The group arrived at Al-Rushed State Company, Al-Mammon Factory and Al-Qaqa State Company that belongs to MIC. At the first site, the group asked about the chart of the machines which were manufactured by the Company to check it. After that, the group made a tour included the scrap heap yard, the separation building and the Mixers’ building, which belong to Al- Mammon Factory. Afterwards, the group headed for Al-Qaqa State Company and placed stickers on the (300 Gallons capacity) containers. The inspection went on for four hours, and then the group went back to the Hotel. C. Group III: The group set out from Al-Qanat Hotel at 8:30a.m, consisted of (4) inspectors and headed by the Bangladesh (Mr. Mohammed Seif Al-eslam). The group arrived at the repairing workshop of the Electronic Base of Ministry of Defense. It held a meeting with the Commander of this site to get acquainted with nature of this workshop and the important activities of the workshop. Afterwards, it made a tour included all the stores and workshops. The inspection went on for (3) hours, and then the group went back to the Hotel. D. Group IV: The group set out from Al-Qanat Hotel at 8:30a.m, consisted of (5) inspectors and headed by the French inspector (Mr. Jacque). The group arrived at Ibn-Alhaitham site of Alkarama State Company, one of the MIC’s companies. The inspectors held a meeting with the Director of this Company where they discussed the relevant details of the control & guiding systems of the missiles. Afterwards, the inspectors toured the stores of the autopilot and placed stickers on some of Al-Soumoud missiles available there. The inspection went on for three hours and a quarter, and then the group returned to the Hotel. E. Group V: The group set out from Al-Qanat Hotel at 8:30 a.m., consisted of (2) inspectors and headed by the Romanian inspector (Mr. Micaeel). The group arrived at Al-Fateh Factory, which belongs to Al- Fateh State Company. It held a meeting with the officials there and inquired about the special experiments of Al- Fateh missile, which recently took place. Afterwards, the group made a tour included the buildings of this site. The inspection went on for (3) hours and a half, and then the group went back to the Hotel. 3. UNMOVIC Inspection Team (Biological): A. Group I: The group set out from Al-Qanat Hotel at 8:30a.m, consisted of (6) inspectors and headed by the British inspector (Mr. Roger). The group arrived at the bombs’ destruction site in Al-Azizia and inspected the ongoing digging operations in order to remove the destructed bombs to be counted on the spot. The inspection lasted for three hours, and then the group went back to the Hotel. B. Group II: (Mosul). The group set out from Nineveh Palace Hotel at 8:30 a.m, consisted of (5) inspectors and headed by the Dutch inspector (Mr.Yan Oznek). It arrived at the Agriculture and Woods College, which belongs to Al-Mosul University. The group held a meeting with the Dean of this College, and inquired about the activities of the College, its departments, the number of the personnel, the number of the students and the ongoing researches. The inspection lasted for three hours, and then the group returned to the Hotel. 4. UNMOVIC Inspection Team (Chemical): A. Group I: The group left Al-Qanat Hotel at 8:50 a.m., consisted of (10) inspectors and headed by the Irish inspector (Mr. Shine McMahon). It arrived at the insecticides stores which belong to the State Commission of Agricultural Protection in Al-Suwaira. The group held a meeting with the Director of the stores and inquired him about the nature of those stores and the kind of the services provided to the beneficiaries. Afterwards, the group made a tour included all the stores and checked their contents. The inspection went on for three hours, and then the group went back to the Hotel. B. Group II: At 9:10 a.m., an UNMOVIC airplane took off from Al-Rasheed Airport with (16) inspectors on board, headed by the Austrian inspector (Mr. Harold). The group arrived at Al-Jazeira Oil Refinery of Ministry of Oil. The group held a meeting with Director of the Refinery, and inquired about the nature of the work of the Refinery, the number of the workers and the production capacity. The inspection lasted for three hours, and then the group went back to Al-Rasheed Airport. 5. UNMOVIC Joint Inspection Team (Baghdad): The team, consisting of (11) inspectors headed by Mr. Blue Brito (Brazilian), set out of Al-Qanat Hotel at 8:30 a.m., and arrived at Al-Faiyhaa Company for Producing Table Eggs/ private sector. The team held a meeting with the Company’s Director and inquired about the barns that belong to the Company and kind of production. Afterwards, the team toured all the barns of the Company. The inspection lasted for an hour and a half, and then the team returned to the Hotel. 6. UNMOVIC Joint Inspection Team (Mosul): A. Group I: The group, consisting of (4) inspectors headed by Mr. Ula (Swedish), set out of Nineveh Palace Hotel at 9:00 a.m., and arrived at the Center of Customs Directorate of the Ministry of Finance. It held a meeting with those who are in charge of the Center, and inquired about the most important changes that took place during the last four years and the nature of material that the Center deals with. Afterwards, the group toured all the facilities and stores of the Center, and had a look at their records. The inspection lasted for an hour and twenty minutes, and then the group returned to Nineveh Palace Hotel. B. Group II: The group, consisting of (4) inspectors headed by Mr. Toni (British), set out of Nineveh Palace Hotel at 9:20 a.m., and arrived at the Mosul Ammunition Stores/ First Group of the Ministry of Defense. It held a meeting with the Commander of the site and inquired about the kind of ammunition stored there and about the party to which the Stores belong. Afterwards, the group toured the Stores and inspected the stored ammunition. The inspection lasted for three hours, and then the group returned to Nineveh Palace Hotel.
