A statement by Spokesman for Ministry of Foreign Affairs on (UNMOVIC),(IAEA) activities IRAQI MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS February 23, 2003
1- IAEA Inspection Team: The team, consisting of (30) inspectors headed by Mr.Takid (Japanese), set out from Al-Qanat Hotel at 8:40 a.m., and arrived at the cancelled Al-Muthana site of Al-Tariq State Company, one of the companies of Military Industrialization Commission, situated 100 km to the north of Baghdad. The team conducted a radiological survey to all the roads and buildings of the site and got some coordinates of the site. The radiological survey process lasted for two hours and a half. The group, later, returned to Al-Qanat Hotel. 2- UNMOVIC Inspection Team (Chemical): The team, consisting of (6) inspectors led by Mr. Poll (Canadian), set out from Al-Qanat Hotel at 8:40 a.m., and arrived at AL-Mooroj Company for Perfume Manufacturing/ private sector, located at Al-Karrada Kharij. The team held a meeting with the Director of the Company and sought clarification on the date of founding the Company and its most important products, the sources of raw materials and whether there is a quality control laboratory, the number of the staff and the nature of the Company’s activity during 1998-2002. The team, later, toured all the facilities of the Company. The visit lasted for one hour. The team returned to Al-Qanat Hotel. 3- UNMOVIC Inspection Team (Missiles): A-Group I: The group, consisting of (6) inspectors headed by Mr. Michael (Romanian), set out from Al-Qanat Hotel at 8:00 a.m., and arrived Al-Qadiseyah State Company, one of the companies of the Military Industrialization Commission, located at Al- Yussifeyah area, 25 km south of Baghdad. The group held a meeting with the Director of the Company and asked questions on the equipment manufactured by the Company, which are related to the missiles. Afterwards, it inspected the workshops that manufacture these parts and photographed them. The group, later, inspected the remaining offices of the Company. The visit lasted for almost three hours and half. B- Group II: The group, consisting of (5) inspectors headed by Mr. Jacqueaus (French), set out from Al-Qanat Hotel at 9:00 a.m., and arrived at Al-Milad State Co, one of the companies of the Military Industrialization Commission, located at Al- Yussifeyah area 25km south of Baghdad .The team held a meeting with those who are in charge of the Company and asked questions on the command and control systems of the missiles, and which type of technology is being used in manufacturing. Later, it checked the formation it had got on its previous visit and sought clarification on the import sources of the quantity control and detection devices of missiles and the technical specifications of these devices. The team, later, inspected the workshops of the Company .The inspection lasted for two hours and a half and then the group returned to Al-Qanat Hotel . C- Group III: The group, consisting of (3) inspectors headed by Mr. Mohammed Saif Al-Islam (Bangladeshi), set out from Al-Qanat Hotel at 9.20 a.m., and arrived at Al-Rafah site of Al- Karamah State Company, one of the companies of the Military Industrialization Commission, located at75km west of Baghdad .The task of the group was to attend the test process of missiles engine on pad, and photographed it. The inspection lasted for two hours and half, and then group returned to Al-Qanat Hotel. 4- UNMOVIC Inspection Team (Biological): A-Group I: The group, consisting of (6) inspectors headed by Mr.YanRozink (Dutch), set out from Nineveh palace Hotel at 9:15a.m,and arrived at the Veterinary /Al-Mosul University. It held a meeting with the Dean of the College and sought clarification on the Microbiology Department, the number of the staff and researches and number of microbiology isolations and types of the on-going experiments on animals, the number of other departments of the College, number of the staff, the way of its financing. The group inspected all the laboratories and sections of the College. Inspection lasted for two hours and a quarter, then the group returned to Nineveh Palace Hotel. B- Group II: The group, consisting of (6) inspectors headed by Mr. Rolf (Swiss) and arrived the Nineveh Company for Manufacturing Foodstuff/ private sector. The group held a meeting with those who are in charge of the Company, and asked questions on the duration in which the Company stopped manufacturing alcoholic drinks and changing it to soft drink (7UP), the number of employees and engineers, the average of production, the most important examinations conducted in the Co. The group checked and compared the declarations. Afterwards, it inspected all the facilities of the Company. The inspection lasted for two hours and a quarter. The group returned to Nineveh Palace Hotel. C- Group III: The Group joined with the joint inspection team/Baghdad. 5- UNMOVIC Joint Inspection Team /Baghdad: The team, which was joined by the third biological group, set out from Al-Qanat Hotel at 8:30 a.m., it consisted of (17) inspectors headed by Mr. Paolo (Brazilian). The team arrived at AL-Fath Factory of the Huteen State Company, which is one of the companies of Military Industrialization Commission, located at 75km south of Baghdad. The team held a meeting with the Director of the Factory and asked questions on the nature of the work of the site, the party who is beneficial from the site, the staff, the type of the raw materials used, whether there is an expansion in the Factory .The team, later, inspected all the facilities of the Factory and familiar itself with the on-going expansions and used (x-ray) device in their radiological survey. Inspection lasted for five hours and a quarter. The team returned to Al-Qanat Hotel.
