A statement by Spokesman for Ministry of Foreign Affairs on (UNMOVIC),(IAEA) activities

IRAQI MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS

February  14, 2003

 

 1. UNMOVIC Inspection Team (Chemicals):

   The team set out from Al-Qanat Hotel at 9:00 a.m., consisting of (14) inspectors, headed by the Austrian inspector (Harold). The team arrived at Al-Muthana site - MIC which is cancelled. It took (5) samples out of (5) barrels . These barrels will be melted  next week.

   The visit lasted for  (2) hours, then the team went back to the Hotel.

2. UNMOVIC Inspection team (Biological):

A. Group I: It set out from Al-Qanat Hotel at 9:30 a.m., consisting of (3) inspectors, headed by the English inspector (Roger). The group arrived at Al-Mansor State Company-MIC, and went to the Specification Standards Section that belongs to the Seeds Production State Company-Trade Ministry, in Al-Horia area. The main reason of the inspection was to identify both sites locations, noting down their coordinates and to acknowledge the nature of their activities in general .

   The visit lasted for an hour and fifteen minutes, then the group went back to the Hotel.

B. Group II: It set out from Al-Qanat Hotel at 9:30 a.m., consisting of (4) inspectors, headed by the Swedish (Roaf). It toured around several areas in Diala Province and they are: College of Science-Diala University, Diala Company for Production Dates and Food Materials- co-ed sector, Baquba Company for Packing Foods and Dates- co-ed sector, Aspiratory and Tuberculosis Diseases Center.  

   The visit lasted for  (2) hours, then it went back to the Hotel.

3. The Arial Reconnaissance Team:

   A helicopter took off from Al-Rasheed Airport with (7) inspectors on board at 10:00a.m. It made an Arial reconnaissance for the following areas: Saddam State Company, Al-Raffah State Company (all the above sites belong to the MIC), Staff-Officer School (chemical class) of MD and a complex of Al-Shaheed installation in Amriat Alfeluja area.

   The reconnaissance operation lasted for (2) hours, then the helicopter went back to Al-Rasheed area.
