IRAQI MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS February

1. IAEA Inspection Team: A. Group I: Consisting of (2) inspectors and led by Neil Frank, an English inspector, the group set out from Al-Qanat Hotel at 8:45 a.m., and arrived at Ibn Al-Haithem Factory which belongs to Al-Karama State Company, one of the MIC Companies, some 10km north of Baghdad. The group visited the spare parts’ store, checked the seals on the machinery . The visit lasted for an hour and the group went back to the Hotel. B. Group II: Consisting of (3) inspectors and led by Brice, an American inspector, the group set out from Al-Qanat Hotel at 8:50 a.m., and arrived at the area of Al-Ameriya of Al-Faluja, 70km west of Baghdad. Using equipment carried on a vehicle, the group conducted a radiological survey for the chemical training field, Saddam State Company and Al-Amer Factoy which belong to Saddam Company. The survey operation lasted for some two hours and the group went back to the Hotel. 2. UNMOVIC Inspection Team (Missiles): A. Group I: Consisting of (5) inspectors and led by Gerhard, a German inspector, the group arrived at Al-Fada’ State Company, one of the MIC Companies, some 10km south of Baghdad. The group held a meeting with the concerned person in the Company in order to check the related declarations. The visit lasted for an hour and the group went back to the Hotel. B. Group II: Consisting of (4) inspectors and led by Kie, a French inspector, the group set out from Al-Qanat Hotel at 8:15 a.m., and arrived at Badr State Company, one of the MIC Companies, some 30km south of Baghdad. The group held a meeting with the Company’s Assistant Director General and asked about the manufactured parts of the equipment and molds that concern manufacturing all kinds of missiles. Then the group visited some of the workshops and checked some of the machinery and took photos as well. The visit lasted for (4) hours and the group went back to the Hotel. 3. UNMOVIC Inspection Team (Chemical): Consisting of (14) inspectors and led by Harold, an American inspector, the team set out from Al-Qanat Hotel at 9:00 a.m., and arrived at the site of the cancelled Al-Muthanna State Facility, some 100km north west of Baghdad. The visit was intended to destroy the mustard material which had been drawn from a (155mm) grenade the day before. The visit lasted for (3) hours and the team went back to the Hotel. 4. UNMOVIC Inspection Team (Biological): Consisting of (5) inspectors and led by Roger, an English inspector, the team set out from Al-Qanat Hotel at 9:00 a.m., and arrived at the agricultural airport in Khan Bani Sa’ad, which belong to the General Board of Plant Protection. The team asked the concerned persons about the tanks used in spraying agricultural herbicides. All the questions were answered. Then the team saw those tanks and measured them. The visit lasted for two and a half hours and the team went back to the Hotel. 5. UNMOVIC Inspection Team (Joint): Consisting of (6) inspectors and led by Jane Philip, a French inspector, the team set out from Al-Qanat Hotel at 9:15 a.m., and arrived at Ibn Rush State Company, one of the MIC Companies, some 15km south of Baghdad. The team met with the Director General of the Company and asked him about the Company’s activity and its role in manufacturing refineries. It inspected the computers, photocopied a number of files concerning water balancing tests in the Company, as well as carrying out some examination on drinking water. The visit lasted for three and a half hours and the team went back to the Hotel. 6. UNIMOVIC Joint Inspection Team (Mosul): Consisting of (6) inspectors and led by Toni, an English inspector, the team set out from the Nineveh Palace Hotel at 9:00 a.m., and arrived at two groups at Al-Hadher Ammunition Stores. The team met with the persons in charge of those two sites and asked them about the main ammunition stored there and the number of the stores that were destroyed during the aggressions of 1991 and 1998. The team inspected a sector of the stores and concentrated on the stores of the smoke ammunition. Then, using vehicles, the team toured all the stores. The visit lasted for (6) hours and the team went back to the Hotel in Mosul. 7. Interviews: A. The IAEA demanded to interview an Iraqi specialist alone in one of Baghdad’s hotels. The NMD informed the concerned Iraqi person of the fixed place and time and encouraged him to have this interview…..which actually took place and lasted for three and a half hours. B. The UNMOVIC demanded to interview an Iraqi specialist alone in one of Baghdad’s hotels. The NMD informed the concerned person of the fixed place and time of the interview. The specialist requested that the interview be recorded, and the UNIMOVIC refused to conduct the interview.
