A statement by Spokesman for Ministry of Foreign Affairs on (UNMOVIC),(IAEA) activities IRAQ MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS February 5, 2003
1. IAEA Inspection Team : A. Group 1: The group is consisted of (4) inspectors, headed by Mr. Andrew Winket (Austria), left Al- Qanat Hotel at 9:10 a.m. It reached Al-Shakily stores of MIC. , Ministry of Housing, Electricity Committee and the Atomic Energy Organization ,25 km. south of Baghdad. The group visited all the stores there and took a look at the stored material which included spare mechanical & electrical items. The group photographed some of these items also checked the stickers of some items. The visit took about (6) hours and the group returned to Al-Qanat Hotel. Group 11: The group is consisted of (4) inspectors, headed by Mr. Abifigini (Russia). The group left Al-Qanat Hotel at 9.00 a.m. it made a radiological survey for many areas included Al-Rushed Camp, the First Military College and Al-Rasheed Air Base. The group used (Nai) type survey device carried by a vehicle. The survey took about (3) hours, then the group returned to Al-Qanat Hotel. 2. UNMOVIC Inspection Team (Chemical): The team is consisted of (10) inspectors headed by Mr. Steef (Britain). It left Al-Qanat Hotel at 8.30 a.m. The team reached Al- shahily stores, located in Al-Twaitha area, 25 km. south of Baghdad. The team visited the stores which belong to MIC., Housing & Industry ministries and viewed all the contents of those stores and checked the stickers placed on the equipment and made conformations. They used a special device for analyzing and testing the metal materials. This visit coincided with the visit of the IAEA team. The visit took about (3) and a half hours, then the team returned to Al-Qanat Hotel. 3. UNMOVIC Inspection Team (Biological): A. Group 1: This group left Al-Qanat Hotel at 8.30 a.m. consisting of (9) inspectors headed by Mr. Peter (Australia). The group reached Al-Norman State Company/of MIC. The group removed the sticker which was placed on Store No.27 in order to check the contents precisely. The group also inquired about some structures of fiberglass in the store. The visit took about (6) hours, then it returned to Al-Qanat Hotel. B. Group 11: This group left Al-Qanat hotel at 8.55 a.m. consisting of (7) inspectors headed by Mr. Bob (USA). The group reached the Nutrition Institute of Ministry of Health in Al-Waziryia area of Baghdad. The group held a meeting with the Institute’s Director and inquired about the nature of this Institute and what are the cases the Institute dealing with, the names of departments’ heads, from where they receive the samples and whether there are tagged equipment. The group made a tour in the laboratories. The visit took about one hour, and then it returned to Al-Qanat Hotel. C. Group 111: The group left Al-Qanat Hotel at 9.00 am. consisting of (7) inspectors headed by Mr. Pet (Netherlands). It reached the Laser & Plasma Institute of Baghdad University. The group held a meeting with the Dean of the Institute and asked him many questions, is this Institute connected with a college or is it independent, what are the departments,labortries , names of the departments’ heads , who is financing this Institute, number of teachers, number of the postgraduate students and are there any agricultural & microbial medias. The group visited the labs, stores, the animals’ house and the administration office. The visit took about 2 hours , then the group returned to Al-Qanat Hotel. D. Group 1V: This group left Al-Qanat Hotel at 9.00 am. consisting of (4) inspectors headed by Mr. Rocco (USA). The group reached Abu Garib Dairies Factory of Ministry of Industry & Minerals, in Abu Graib area 25 km. west of Baghdad. The group visited the Production Department and replaced the damaged and missing stickers with new ones and checked the ovens of the Factory and took samples from the rubble yard. The visit took about two and a half hours.After that the group returned to Al-Qanat Hotel. 4. UNMOVIC Inspection Team (Missiles): A. Group 1: This group left Al-Qanat Hotel at 8.00 am. consisting of (7) inspectors headed by Kenneth Croof (USA). The group reached Al-Rasheed State Company of MIC. The group held a meeting with the Factory’s Director and asked him to fill a form which they have, containing many inquiries about many issues since 1998. Then the group visited the missiles assembling building, using a digital camera and an instrument for measuring dimensions. The visit took about 4 hours, and then the group returned to Al-Qanat Hotel. B. Group 11: This group left Al-Qanat Hotel at 8.30am. consisting of (5) inspectors headed by Jack.The group reached Al-Fattah factory of Al-Karama state company of MIC. In Al-Taji area. The group checked the declarations concerning the controlled and guided systems. It visited the building B3 and the store. The store took a bout 3 hours, and then the group returned to Al-Qanat Hotel. C. Group 111:This group left Al-Qanat Hotel at 9.00 am. consisting of. (3) inspectors headed by Mr. Andrea (Ukraine). It reached Al- Muatsem factory of Al-Rasheed State Company of MIC. 25 km. south of Baghdad. The group put stickers on some missiles which are in theFactory and also removed some stickers for rehabilitation purposes. The visit took a bout 2 hours, and then the group returned to Al-Qanat Hotel. 5. UNMOVIC Inspection Team (Joint) /Baghdad: This team left Al-Qanat Hotel at 9.30 am. consisting of. (5) inspectors headed by Mr. William (Britain). It reached the rubble area which belongs to Baghdad Municipality in Al-Taji, 30 km. north of Baghdad. The team was divided into (2) groups , the first one looked at how they burry the rubble, the second one held a short meeting with the Assistant Director of the second site(The concrete mixer) ,they inquired about the subsidiary of this site , are there any chemical material stored there , do they put chemical material to the concrete and the beneficiary of this mixer. After that the group made a tour inside the site. The visit took (20) minutes, then returned to Al-Qanat Hotel. 6. UNMOVIC Inspection Team (Joint) /Mosul: This team left Nineveh Palace hotel at 8, 30 am consisting of. (11) inspectors headed by Mr. Roman (Russia) .It reached the Sinjar Cement Factory which belongs to the Ministry of Industry. The team held a meeting with the director of the factory and asked him about the name of the Factory, the relation of this site with the mother company, where is the former Director, what is the name of the Director General of the Company, the number of the departments, names of the heads, the mechanism of importing the item of the MOU. The visit took (3) hours, then the team returned to Nineveh Place Hotel.
