STATEMENT BY DEPUTY SPOKESPERSON French Ministry of Foreign Affairs April 9, 2002 Excerpts
Q - Do you have any particular comment on the Iraqi decision to halt oil exports for a month? Is it something you regret? Do you think it might change? Do you understand the decision? The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has no particular comment on the decision.
Q - Still on Iraq. Do you think the priority for Iraq is to let the U.N. inspectors return? Yes. We keep saying so over and over. Our position is absolutely unchanged. We are asking for the return of UNMOVIC inspectors in the conditions laid down by the United Nations, immediately and without restrictions.
Q - Is the ultimatum process vis-à-vis Iraq next? It's not an ultimatum process. Discussions are continuing in the Security Council. First, they're resumed periodically for the renewal of the oil-for-food program every six months, and then we're involved in discussions over the list, the GRL. The purpose is to wrap up the question of the list quickly.
